This may help support circulation, lymphatic flow and relaxation — all of which play a role in how efficiently the liver carries out its detoxification functions.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A castor oil pack involves applying castor oil to a flannel cloth, placing it over the liver area of the abdomen, and applying gentle heat for a period of time.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Castor oil contains a fatty acid called ricinoleic acid, which is believed to have anti-inflammatory and circulation-supporting properties. When combined with warmth and rest, castor oil packs are traditionally used to support the body during periods of detoxification, stress or sluggish digestion.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Castor Oil Packs Can Support the Liver</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The liver plays a central role in detoxification. It processes hormones, chemicals and metabolic waste, preparing them for elimination via the digestive system and kidneys.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Castor oil packs are traditionally believed to support liver function by:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>increasing circulation to the liver area</li>



<li>supporting lymphatic movement around the abdomen</li>



<li>encouraging relaxation of the nervous system</li>



<li>creating warmth, which may support metabolic activity</li>
</ul>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Detoxification processes tend to function more efficiently when the body is in a calm, parasympathetic state. This is why castor oil packs are often used in the evening, when the body is naturally winding down.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While castor oil packs don’t detox the body on their own, they are thought to <strong>support the liver in doing its job more effectively</strong>, particularly when used alongside reduced toxin exposure, good hydration, digestion support and adequate rest.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What You’ll Need</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You don’t need specialist equipment to use a castor oil pack. Simple, reusable items work well.</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>A piece of flannel</strong><br>This can be cut from an old flannel shirt. Cut it into a square and fold it into a few layers so it fits comfortably over the abdomen.</li>



<li><strong>Castor oil</strong><br>Choose a good-quality castor oil. Organic and cold-pressed is ideal.</li>



<li><strong>A heat source</strong><br>This could be:
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>a hot water bottle</li>



<li>a wheat bag</li>



<li>or a small heat blanket</li>
</ul>
</li>



<li><strong>Two old towels</strong><br>One to layer over the pack and one to layer over heat source to keep the heat in. </li>
</ul>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Castor oil can stain, so it’s best to use towels and clothing you don’t mind getting oily.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to Use a Castor Oil Pack For Liver Detox</h2>



<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Lay an old towel on a bed or sofa to protect the surface.</li>



<li>Apply castor oil generously to the folded flannel so it’s well soaked but not dripping.</li>



<li>Place the flannel directly over the liver area (on the right-hand side of the abdomen, just under the rib cage).</li>



<li>Place an old towel over the flannel.</li>



<li>Place your heat source (hot water bottle, wheat bag or small heat blanket) on top.</li>



<li>Place the second towel over the top to hold everything in place and retain warmth.</li>



<li>Lie down and rest for 20–45 minutes.</li>
</ol>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is best done lying down and allowing the body to fully relax. It’s not a practice to rush or multitask through.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After use, the flannel can be stored in a sealed container, I use an old zip-lock freezer bag and reused.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Often Can You Use Castor Oil Packs?</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There’s no fixed schedule. Some people use castor oil packs a few times a week for a short period, while others use them occasionally as part of a wider detox or self-care routine.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As with any body-based practice, how you feel matters. If it feels supportive, it may be something you return to. If it feels uncomfortable or disruptive, it’s fine to stop.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Castor oil packs may not be suitable if you:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This chocolate mousse is absolutely divine—both indulgent and surprisingly wholesome. The silken tofu creates the silkiest, creamiest texture while keeping the dessert light and nutritious. Paired with the richness of 70% (or higher) dark chocolate, it’s perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness from the maple syrup.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What I love most about this recipe is how versatile it is. You can easily customise the flavours to suit your preferences. I personally love adding a touch of peppermint or orange—it’s such a classic pairing with chocolate. For something more creative, I sometimes add a little spirulina for a nutrient boost. It’s an excellent bright green powder that’s packed with nutrients, but you have to be careful not to add too much as its flavour can overpower the chocolate. That’s why I like combining it with peppermint—it masks the spirulina taste beautifully.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even my 7-year-old daughter loves this mousse, and she can’t even tell there’s tofu in it! It’s smooth, creamy, and so easy to whip up when you need a sweet treat after a meal. Give it a try, and don’t be afraid to experiment with your own favourite flavours!</p>
